We shouldn't paint for social renown; we should paint to deepen our self-knowledge...
Born on March 22nd, 1956 in Témiscouata (Quebec, Canada), Gabriel Lavoie, a professional Academic artist, certified by the International Art Academy in Quebec, is a self-taught artist. With such a predestined name and a truly spiritual visionary approach, the artist, Gabriell, is without any doubt a new reference in the world of symbolic painting. From one canvas to another, his paintings reflect his spiritual journey. For him, everything we paint expresses who and what we are. Hence, Gabriell uses painting to manifest and communicate the Light that is to be found in each of us.
Living modestly and humbly in Quebec, Gabriell grew up in the Lanaudière region. From early childhood, his surprising talent for such quality drawing seemed to be a natural gift. Later, in the 1980s, his love for drawing earned him his first accolades in portraiture. Despite this recognition, however, Gabriell felt great inner emptiness, and several changes in his personal life led to deepened awareness of the meaning of life.
During this phase, not only did he call into question his need to perform and be acknowledged, but also his very talent. This was a turning point in his artistic career: a new path opened for him and new creativity emerged. Guided by increasing confidence in his talent and a more present spirituality, he sketched several fairytale-like landscapes which reflected his new aspirations. This experience lasted a few months and turned out to be most revealing. Oil and acrylic painting became his new means of expression. The symbiosis between his personal research and painting has given birth to works of great depth, which allow Gabriell to express his immense potential.
Art allows us to manifest the qualities of our Soul...
With hindsight, thanks to symbolic analysis, Gabriell also understands how his evening job as a school janitor helped purify his memories and strengthen his spiritual will. Indeed, so as to be able to devote his days to developing his artistic talent, to ensure he had the necessary finances on which to live, Gabriell worked as a janitor in a prviate school for several years. Among his many tasks, he had to clean various rooms, including the toilets and corridors on all four floors of the building.
During all these years, I wasn't aware of the impact this work would have on my future. It was when I began studying symbolic language that I realized that the aim of all those evenings spent pushing my trolley, laden with cleaning products, around the school cleaning up was to simultaneously do a great clean-up within myself, in my inner school, in my own student-teacher potential. At first, my ego was sorely tried, especially since some of the teachers there were former classmates of mine. I learned humility and detachment from what people think and the way they look at me. I integrated active meditation into my work as well as deep analysis and reflection. Every evening I would talk to God about my life and my future. This intensive communciation with Him forged my spiritual will. With all my heart and soul, I wanted to be able to express who I really was. That was my dream, my heart's desire. Then, one day, an unexpected change turned up. A new association gave me access to the art world and allowed me to give up my job as janitor.
This new partnership was short-lived but it served as a springboard for his future teaching and professional artist career. Gabriell considered this synchronicity as a wonderful gift from God, a golden opportunity that he had been waiting for for so long. New motivation engendered magical inspiration, hitherto unknown to him, which was to have a direct impact on his life and his art. After 8 years of deep cleansing, Gabriell was now committed to a new program. Destiny had made this decision. He now shares the gift he received from Heaven and his dream has come true...
Today, Gabriell pursues his art in his studio in Terrebonne, where not only does he he transpose his creative talent and inspiration in his magnificent paintings, but above all in his enthusiasm when teaching intuitive painting.
Later, a new partnership was formed with UCM Publishing. Thanks to this new association, Gabriell's works take on a whole new expansion. For UCM, he created works that are to be found on the covers of a collection of CDs and books, many of which have become international bestsellers. This same publishing company and the artist participate in numerous joint projects. To this day, Gabriell has produced a series of 65 greetings cards, 8 posters, 3 calendars, a series of 24 laminates as well as illustrating a children's tale, and several other projects are currently underway. Every year, intuitive painting workshops are organized in Quebec and in Europe.
Intuitive painting completely transformed my vision of Art and Life.
Gabriell's works travel all over the world and inspire the souls of the new generations to discover the inner beauty of painting. Ever determined to elevate his art to the Highest Summits, Gabriell continually reinvents it and inspires other artists to do likewise. His multiple artistic experiments and experiences open up paths to renewal. Many people say that a certain timelessness emanates from his works.
I know that all this transformation that I aspire to through my paintings will also have a direct impact on those who look at them. Hence it is very important for an artist to recognize the immense responsibility he has when he exhibits his work.
These last few months have set off a new stage for the artist. He has received beautiful acknowledgement from the art world, and he has been awarded several prestigious prizes. Among these, he was acknowledged as a Professional Academic Artist by his peers at the International Academy of Art. Furthermore, several opportunities are now under negotiation regarding art galleries.
Gabriell recognizes the privilege it is to have received such an exceptional gift and it is important for him to honor this talent. His mission as as artist is to make art accessible to everyone. Thanks to his great open-mindedness, he proposes tools such as respect for others, and the right to make mistakes...tools which he himself has integrated into his art. His art lessons and workshops are often associated with a new form of expression: intuitive art. To Gabriell's mind, open exchanges are an indispensible element that contributes to the success of his teaching.
Through his symbolic, spiritual approach, his style has become a new reference in the world of painting. From one canvas to another, his painting reflects his spiritual journey. His quest for the absolute and his responsibilty regarding his own conscience allows him to continually seek to embody qualities and virutes...To be in Gabriell's cpmpany, as his students recount, sometimes means more philosophizing than painting.
Thanks to my meditation work, and an in-depth study of my dreams, i now understand that we become what we think. So I paint to become what I paint...
Often, when he manages to totally abandon himself to the impulses of his deep inner being, new elements spring forth in his work. The tendency and desire to control disappears, giving way to receptivity. Time seems to stand still, the potential within him is activated and his confidence is renewed. It is a magical phenomenon; it's as though the canvas is covered in color and movements that take shape unbeknown to him.
At times, I feel that the painting already contains the imprint of its, as yet invisible, destiny. In other words, it has already been painted on a higher level of conscience. Thus the message of the work seems pre-determined and guided by a Force... a Force, or Power, that is much greater than me...
The symbiosis between his inner research and his painting gives birth to works of great depth.
Each symbol represented takes on individual meaning. By observing and analysing the different works, people speak about my paintings in images of their own, which reflect their own respective vision...Intuitive painting has completely transformed my vision of art and life. The freedom of expression and detachment from material results are essential to what I experience with my canvas. I have learned to let go and to open my heart and soul to inspiration, that infinite potential that lies in each of us...
